17 MAY 2026: Governance Matters
Many recent events have again raised issues of how state boards are run. Boards have become political appointments leading to a lack of continuity of policy direction, delays in operations, and political nepotism. The MSJ outlined its policy approach for transparent and partisan state board appointments, driven by civil society.
Recent events also show the degeneration of the Parliament. It is unacceptable for sitting parliamentarians to use violent, misogynist, racist, and homophobic language. We have also witnessed conflicts of interest, and question-dodging which eroded citizen’s confidence in the legislature.
In response to recent political allegations about crime and party financing, we again raised the issue of party finance regulation – a matter that the MSJ has consistently championed and advocated for.
